Family Construction and Its Relation to Children's Academic Achievement

(A field Study Applied on A Sample of Secondary School Students in ALMadina AL-Monawwara)

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the family structure's relationship to the academic achievement of children. For this to be achieved, the study relied on the descriptive analytical approach, where a questionnaire was used as a data collection tool. The study was applied to a selection of (287) students who were selected from (4) first-year government secondary schools affiliated with the Department of Education in Madinah.

The study also showed that the most influential family means on academic achievement came in order: Providing families with designated places for their children to help them review their lessons, parents following up on their children’s academic achievement through periodic visits to schools, and providing the family with educational platforms for children. 

The study yielded several recommendations, most notably: The necessity of giving Parents the skills to manage family conflicts, the necessity of giving parents the values, skills, and behaviors that guarantee the strengthening of the relationship between them, educating parents about their role in family stability, the need for male and female students in schools to be given the skills and values that guarantee them the art of dealing with others, holding seminars and training workshops with the aim of educating male and female students about the importance of kinship ties and preserving the bond of brotherhood within the family, the importance of holding training courses to empower parents with the skills of dealing with children in all stages of life, the need to educate parents about the importance of strengthening the relationship with their children and getting close to them and knowing their problems, and the importance of guiding children and making them aware of the importance of obeying parents and accompanying them with kindness.
