The Aesthetics of Style in the Sermons of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him)

Abstract

This study examines the aesthetics of style in the sermons of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) by analyzing the linguistic and stylistic structure that characterized his sermons, relying on modern discourse analysis methodologies. The study focused on studying textual coherence in Imam Hussein's sermons, relying on the concepts of "casting" and "weaving." It demonstrated that the Imam's sermons are characterized by internal coherence through the use of conjunctions, reference, ellipsis, and substitution, which contribute to clarity of meaning and ease of understanding. The discourse strategies in Imam Hussein's sermons were analyzed according to the pragmatic approach, revealing that the Imam used multiple methods to communicate with his audience, such as persuasion, attraction, and argumentation, reflecting his skill in employing language to achieve his reformist goals. Imam Hussein's sermons included calls for moral and social reform, employing short, deeply meaningful sermons that urged noble morals and the avoidance of vices, reflecting his commitment to Islamic values.
