ترجَع أهمية موضوع الشهيد بوصفه نسقا ثقافيا إلى البُعد الديني والأخلاقي والروحي للجهاد في سبيل الله، لغرض إعلاء كلمة التوحيد والحفاظ على أرض المسلمين وعرضهم وأموالهم، بما يؤدّي إلى عزّ الدولة الإسلاميّة العربية وغير العربية. وللشهادة فلسفتها الخاصة، ولكنّ هذه الفلسفة قد تُقال بأسلوب علمي ومنطقي جاف خالٍ من العاطفة، وقد تُقال بأسلوب جميل مؤثر في نفس المتلقي ما يجعل الأدب خالدا يجعل المتلقي قارئا نشطا يُعيد إنتاج تجربة الشاعر، للوقوف على رؤية هذا النسق الرمزي الثقافي المُهم في حياة الأمة الإسلاميّة في ماصيها ومستقبلها، الذي تتعدد فيه الدلالات الايحائية، فضلا عن المتعارضة.
وقد اقتضت طبيعة البحث أنْ يُقسّم على تمهيد خصصته لدراسة حياة الشاعر وبيان مكانته الشعرية، ونبذة عن فلسفة الشهادة في الإسلام، تسبقه مقدمة، ويليه مبحثان، يليهما خاتمة خصصتها لسرد نتائج البحث، تليها قائمة بمصادر البحث ومراجعه، أمّا المبحثان فهما:
المبحث الأوَّل: مفهوم الأنساق الثقافية والتعبير الرمزي.
المبحث الثاني: رمزية الشهيد في شعر البرقعاوي.
