Abstract
The current research (Umberto Eco's readings of art theory of art from Greek philosophy to the Middle Ages) deals with the concept of art theory of art and analyzes it philosophically and aesthetically from Greek thought, especially in Aristotle and Plato, up to the Middle Ages. The research consisted of three chapters: The first chapter included the research problem that was summarized by the question: What is the theory of art for art? What is its concept? Its role, its importance and the need for it? The aim of the research, which was summarized by (acquaintance with the art theory of art by Umberto Eco) and its history from the Greek era until the aesthetic, literary and philosophical employment of Umberto Eco. As for the second chapter, which is the theoretical framework of the research, it has been divided into three topics: The first is concerned with the concept of theory Art is for art, while the second topic deals with the intellectual roots of art theory of art, and the third topic: art theory for art in the Middle Ages.
The research reached a set of results, including:
- Art theory can help improve the mind's ability to notice, feel and sense.
- Art theory is shaped by harmony and cohesion, as well as the interest of many artists in this rational form.
- Art was linked to the development of events, and the artist was inspired by the events of his artistic works, according to a contemplative vision, connotations and expressive symbols derived from living reality, and constitutes a prominent historical value in recording major events and crises around the world.
