Inspiration of Alternative Contemporary Fashion from Saudi Arabian Heritage
Abstract
Fashion design is considered one of the most beautiful, applied arts, especially when linked to traditional arts. Therefore, the research is interested in reviving Saudi heritage and contributing to finding sources of inspiration from the Saudi heritage for contemporary fashion design, as the research seeks to enrich modern fashion with design lines taken from Saudi heritage using 3D design programs, the research studies Saudi heritage lines and fabrics and employ them in contemporary designs, that is successful in the contemporary Saudi market. With increasing global challenges, Saudi traditional clothing faces difficulties in competition in the market. Thus, the research focuses on reviving Saudi heritage for new generations and finding heritage-inspired sources for contemporary fashion design. The study aims to enrich modern fashion with design lines derived from Saudi heritage, utilizing 3D design software to study fabrics and patterns for contemporary designs. It emphasizes heritage as a source of inspiration for designers, analyzing its elements to generate successful design ideas. The research targets defining Saudi heritage and highlighting its values while designing contemporary women's clothing based on traditional elements. It identifies differences in newly developed designs across three dimensions (heritage, competitiveness, and functionality). The research employs experimental and analytical methods. Results indicate that the designs are competitive on a global scale, providing practical comfort for modern women and showcasing the ability of Saudi designers to leverage their heritage in innovative ways that align with modern trends.
