The problem of Identity between Similar and Difference in The Drowning of Mirrors by "Elias Farkouh"
Abstract
The problem of identity in the contemporary narrative novels is noticed clearly in the modernist narratives that were written after the changes that affected the social and the political structures in the world, and the sabotage of most of the international institutions, especially in the Arab Arena. The problem is noticed clearly in the novel (Drawing of mirrors) written by the Jordanian writer Elias Farkouh, who takes the land of Jordan as a sample to explore the bloody conflicts and its wondrous and strange world. The examples are given in the 60’s war and continue in later times not mentioned in the novel but it shows the narrative limits in the eastern societies. The significance of the study: is the search for the conflicting and chipped identities that were found in the later wars and conflicts in the Middle East on one hand and the search for harmonious identities in reality on the other. Also, the search for identity and its main components in the novel (Drawing of mirrors) is to show the most prominent techniques that the writer relies on in representing identity in writing this narrative, which is the focus of our study.
