Al-Shawkani's Critical Differences in Nayl al-Awtar, Part 29

Abstract

This research aims to study al-Shawkani's critical methodology in his book "Nayl al-Awtar," which is considered one of the most prominent books in the field of hadith criticism. The research reviews the foundations of al-Shawkani's methodology in studying hadith, focusing on how he analyzes and evaluates the chain of transmission (isnad) and the text (matn). It also addresses al-Shawkani's criteria for authenticating and weakening hadiths, and how he prioritizes between different narrations based on the evidence and supporting arguments for each narration.

The research also examines the critical differences between al-Shawkani and other critics such as al-Nawawi and Ibn Hajar, providing an analytical study of the texts in which al-Shawkani differed with these critics. Through this analysis, the impact of al-Shawkani's critical differences on hadith jurisprudence and its evaluation becomes clear.

The research also presented practical examples from Part 29 of Nayl al-Awtar to illustrate al-Shawkani's critical methodology. His statements were compared with those of other critics to further understand how his approach influenced the final judgment on hadith.
