Generating Arabic poetry with artificial intelligence: between Originality and Imitation

Abstract

The world is witnessing rapid advancements in various fields of knowledge, technology, and science, thanks to human intellect and the continuous pursuit of innovation and progress in all aspects of life. Within the framework of leveraging modern technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) programs, numerous applications have emerged in various scientific fields, including Arabic language studies.

This study aimed to determine the extent to which AI programs can emulate the poetic inspiration characteristic of humans. It also sought to monitor the evolution of poetry within the context of AI literature and to identify its positive and negative impacts on poetic creativity. Furthermore, the study explored the role of AI in developing poetic writing, both now and in the future.

The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach to uncover and analyze the dimensions of the problem. It concluded that AI programs represent an advanced stage in the field of creative writing in general, and poetry in particular. However, previous studies have not yet proven the ability of these programs to produce complete poetry based on genuine poetic inspiration. The results also indicated that AI can play a supportive role in the poetic creation process, without replacing human creators.
