Analysis and Programming of Political Thoughts and Themes in the Poetry of Mohammad Taqi Bahar

Abstract

This research aims to identify and examine the political thoughts in the poetry of Malek al-Sho'ara Mohammad Taqi Bahar, and to highlight the extent to which these ideas influenced the formation of political struggles and the awareness of freedom fighters. Mohammad Taqi Bahar is considered a highly capable, popular, and nationalist thinker hailing from the Khorasan region—the cradle of freedom-seeking demands and nationalism, and the launchpad for the intellectual and dynamic system of a segment of Iranian society's intellectuals in the first half of the contemporary Hijri century.

His personal interests, human emotions, and political responsibilities drove Bahar to delve deep into the realm of politics. Through his journalistic and political career, he engaged with all the political currents of his era, articulating his thoughts and visions through poetry, and fighting against all forms of injustice and lawlessness practiced by domestic tyrants and foreign aggressors. The sapling of his political life and revolutionary struggles was deeply planted in his soul with the emergence of the Constitutional (Mashrouteh) Movement, grew stronger with the establishment of the rule of law, and continued until the final hours of his life.

This research, which adopts a descriptive-analytical approach to Bahar’s poetry, concludes that his political poetry transformed into a beacon illuminating the path of struggle, creating vitality and awareness, as it was written for the exaltation and eternal love of the homeland. Bahar consciously utilized poetry as an artistic medium to express his beliefs, embodying a complete harmony between his soul and intellect. His candid and firm criticisms are a testament to this, as artistic inspiration rippled through his being, crystallizing the spirit of art in poetry that represented his core ideology.
